Hey Everyone

So looks like the Cyclone is heading this way after all. It changed courses yesterday but was downgraded to a catergory four. As of 229pm today its back up to a catergory 5. To see what it looks like click here --> http://www.eosnap.com/?p=14975 Its supposed to hit the sunshine coast (about an hour and a half by train away from my area). While they have said it will def hit queensland they are only telling one area - Cairns and surrounding area - to prepare themselves. As a result of the storm the Sunshine coast is expecting record setting swells - 24m - which is the highest the waves have been in ovr 10 yrs.  Everyone around brisbane city seems to not be worried so until it hits i guess theres nothing i can really do cept stay inside. As for the weather ive observed, yesterday was extremely windy and cloudy with hardly any sun. Today however is super hot -with a high uv rating- and next to no wind....calm before the storm?

Other then that the roomates are alirght they choose weird angry movies that ive never heard of to watch at 11 pm lol but once i turn my light out then they turn down the sound.

Well i have school work to do...sigh...

Hello Peoples.

Anyhow the Australian weather network just released this info "Cyclone Ului is expected to head south today, running parallel to the Australian coast and avoiding a potentially destructive course through Queensland. But it is expected to bring giant, seven-metre swells to the Sunshine Coast, prompting fisheries authorities to remove shark nets. The category four cyclone moved closer to the Queensland coast overnight but remains 1330 kilometres off Mackay and 1450km from Cooktown, the Bureau of Meteorology says.It is traveling at 4 kmh, less than half the 10 kmh pace at maintained much of yesterday, but is still causing winds of up to 200 kmh.

So thats good. Other then the windy weather today has been good. they called for heavy rain but its been sunny and hot all day :)

I learned something kinda cool today. You know how liquid objects can be either neutral, acidic or basic? and how you need an indicator [usually litmus paper] to determine what is an acid/base? well today i learned about different indicators. One being red cabbage juice. you boil a cut up red cabbage for a while then strain all the cabbage out. Then pour the now purple juice into the different beakers. If the substance is acidic then the water will turn red and if its a base it'll turn blue. Cool eh? Ever wonder how they get hydranges (sp?) all the different colours? well hydranges are indicators! they make them change colour by putting it in an acid/base.

Other stuff i learned:
-a wasp sting is a base so put something acidic on it to soothe the pain!
-an ant bite is acidic so put a base substance on it!

Something cute :  This is Mr. Shuffles a new arrival and the zoo in Sydney http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/environment/conservation/mr-shuffles-makes-public-debut-20100314-q5rh.html

Also got to briefly talk to mom/dad and Nate today ! miss them all so much!

Goodbyes **tear**

Hello Everyone !

the last week or so has been pretty good. The usual cleaning and packing. On friday (Nates last full day in Aussie) we had plans to spend the day at surfers paradise however they were calling for horrible rainy and gale foce winds so we decided just to spend the day around brisbane city. The day didnt start off very well but by noon we were hanging out and having a blast. We went to souveneer (sp?) shops and then took the city cat (the water taxi) across to south bank. I have to say that it was freakin awesome! I forgot how much i love being on a boat. Once on southbank we ate some lunch and then picked up our tickets for Avenue Q. After we got our tickets we walked down to the riverside and just sat on the grass talking and laughing. Prob the most fun ive had in a very long time. Once 7 o clock came around we went and got our seats for the show. The show turned out to be HALARIOUS! Its seseme street and the muppets put together but is completely for adults which you can understand when they do songs like "the internet is for porn" and "everyones a little bit racist" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbQiSVeQwVQ . Heres one of the tame songs from the london proformance its called It Sucks To Be Me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CK6ksA0QyE4 (sorry no puppets in this one)  it was really really funny. I highly recommend it.

As for Nate leaving, it was the hardest thing ive ever had to do. Weve spent the past 9 months together almost eveyr moment of everyday and i hate to see it stop :( But being the amazing man that he is he left me a video to get me thru the lonely days when he cant make it online so i dont ever have to go to sleep without hearing his goodnight. I love you babe <3 so very very much

So far the new place is going alright. I have 3 italian roomates and an australian woman living with me in Unit 6 lol. The italians dont speak a whole lot of english and prefer to talk to each other in italian. But they are clean and respectuful and thats all i really care about lol.. Pics of the new room can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2120779&id=119100065&l=eb343f4fc8 after the park pictures of course. Yes its crowded and messy but i only moved in yesterday and really wasnt in the mood to clean. so shhhh ur face lol. haha .

As for this week i have Prac tomorrow and then school all the way till thursday and a forum posting thats due on the friday. Hopefully itll pass by quickly ...

xoxo

PS Saturday classes SUCK. Especially when they involve moments that have now re-injured my knee. This week ought to be fun with the brace on. sigh. It sucks to be me ..lol

SUNSHINE! How ive missed thee.....

Well if you didnt catch it from the title; its FINALLY sunny once again :)  Everything just seems so much easier with the sun, and cookies of course. mmMmm cookies

Packing is going slowly but it is going...

What ive learned so far this semester besides all the boring stuff:

  •  "Die Fahne von der Kanada ist rot und weiβ" means "The flag of Canada is red and white" in German
  • If you suffer from Batrachophilia it means you are sexually attracted to frogs.
  • Wiblington disease is a disease that affects your toes.

Bet you didn't know that little bit of info!  Gotta love Uni lol

UPDATES!

Hello People

HUGE UPDATE AS FOLLOWS...........

Goodbyes and New places:

Well for those of you that don’t know, Nate will be making the trip back home on March 13. L its going to suck big time without him here but theres nothing we can really do <z3 On an upside I have been able to find a new place that I just got the keys for the other day. My new address is :

Unit # 6 , Room 3
54 Harcourt Road
New Farm, QLD, 4005
Australia

And you can see it on google earth by clicking this link and then dragging the little yellow dude to the (A) [ its the white house with the redish roof across the street from the laundrymat] : http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=54+harcourt+rd+new+farm&vps=2&sll=-27.461367,153.039079&sspn=0.009596,0.01929&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=54+Harcourt+St,+New+Farm+Queensland+4005

And my room is in the upstairs apartment (where the windows are open). Its small and I'm sharing with 5/6 other ppl but its perfect for me for the next 4 months. I should have more pics up soon of it J

Prac and School

Well so far so good in regards to prac. It was alot of fun watching the Olympics with them and especially with Sandy. On a totally AWESOME note I got to hold her medals !! SO COOL! The kids all sat with me watching the final Hockey game (which took place on a Monday morning for us) cheering on the Canadians! Pretty freaking cool.

As some of you already know, Uni started back up 2 weeks ago. So far its been going really well and keeping me really really busy. I have an assignment due pretty much every single Friday so that should make time fly on by (hopefully anyways) Unfortunatly though I have 2 Saturday classes. The first of which falls on next Saturday aka the Saturday nate leaves L not impressed. Sigh oh well such is life.

Olympics:

By far the best thing about the winter Olympics is http://vancouverisawesome.com/2010/02/12/shane-koyczans-we-are-more/ that poem right there. Made me wanna stand up and scream HELL YEAH! WOO! Lol

Quote of the entire Olympics:

Me: Oh he looks like one of those ppl who shake the red cloth in front of the bull, what are they called ?

Nate: Umm...Spanish?

LMAO

Crazy Weather

So lately all of us in Australia have been dealing with some crazy weather.  From Tsunami warnings –after the earthquake in chilie—to mass flooding to ...wait for it...HAIL in Melbourne yesterday. Sigh I havnt seen the Aussie sun in over a week and I'm getting progressively bored/tired of the rain.  Rain rain Go Away Come Again Another Day.....preferably after the next 4 months...

Ps. Packing sucks ass.

LOVE !!

Heylo Ppls

Well im not too sure that anyones reading this anymore hence the lack of updates but oh well its a venting spot for me at the very least.

So nothing really exciting happening over here. Lots of decisions to be made but since nothing is officially decided i think ill keep things underwraps.

On an up side ive started my new prac. Im in a year 6/7 class with an ex-olympian as a host . Kinda cool right!? She plays 2nd base on the Australian softball team for the past three olynpics winning 2 bronze medals and a silver. Here is a pic of her awesomeness [before she got married and won the 2 broze medals] : http://www.softball.org.au/?Page=24832 Pretty interesting to say the least. So far things have been very different but still fairly awesome. Getting used to the kids being older is weird but going well AND i survivied my first "meet the teacher" night! WOOO ! nerve racking but fantastic!

Other then that just enjoying the last two weeks before school starts back up!

Hello Ppls

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY! woot!  They go ALL OUT for aussie day here so we got up nice and early to go down n watch the flag rasing ceremony , complete with F111 flyover and 21 gun salute. Much to the displeasure of all the children in the vecinity , the 21 gun salut was actually a 21 cannon salute lol. Had all the children crying after just one shot lol After that we took a walk checking out everything before finding some shade and laying under the palm trees on the lawn.  Once we were cooled off again we walked down by the water where they had a movie being played over the swimming pool then we went to the Piazza stage where they had acts playing all day. We watch some awesome preformers, some of my favs being SPLAT! [one of the members is the gym teacher at my prac school] , the tap dancers, and the final band called Jambezi [http://www.mikemeade.com/jambezi/] They were AWESOME! Pics of the day and the acts can be seen here : http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2118140&id=119100065&l=6eeaace536 and I made a video of the acts we saw, it can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oN31PgCvBg

Other then that the only other exciting thing is the AWESOMELY FANTASTIC package we got today from Mike, Jen and Julie! In said package was chocolate from back home (melted but still good) and some discs with a powerpoint and new yrs videos . Nate and I had a blast watching both things. THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!  Miss you all even more now lol Hugs to you all for being awesome.

HOLA!

Just a fast update to inform you all that the cyclone warning has dropped down to only a 20% chance so we are pretty much in the clear :)

 xoxoxox

Manda <3 ~ 162 DAYS!

Ps. Here's an awesome song that a good friend of mine reccomended. Nate said it reminded him of me awww <3 lol But i dedicate this to every woman that is the most comfortable in her t-shirt and jeans, the ones that are beautiful without their makeup and hair done.Im so lucky to have such great women in my life!  ( lyrics below)

The song is called : Gimme that Girl by Jo Nicols

[watch it online https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEtR28N_3tY&feature=related ]

Hang up that red dress,
let down your hair,
cancel those reservations
don't need to go no where.
As good as your looking right now,
girl bet your thinkin I'm crazy,
there's a side of you that I wanna see
that never ceases to amaze me.

Gimme that girl with the hair in a mess
sleepy little smile with her head on my chest,
thats the you that i like best,
gimme that girl.
Gimme that girl lovin up on me,
old t-shirt and a pair of jeans,
thats the you i wanna see,
gimme that girl.

Gimme the girl thats beautiful,
without a trace of makeup of on,
barefoot in the kitchen,
singing her favorite song.
Dancing around like a fool,
starring in her own little show,
gimme the girl the rest of the world,
ain't lucky enough to know
.

Gimme that girl with the hair in a mess
sleepy little smile with her head on my chest,
thats the you that i like best,
gimme that girl.
Gimme that girl lovin up on me,
old t-shirt and a pair of jeans,
thats the you i wanna see,
gimme that girl, gimme that girl.

Mood:  happy

Well today is a day of crazy weather extremes here in the land of oz, for us in brisbane we had crazy cyclone warnings and 38 degrees with high humidity where as in Victoria they actually got snow. Thats right ppl snow in aussie!! As for the cyclone they removed the warning as its moved away however they say there is a 50/50 chance of it coming back but its only a catergory one so if it does come back it shouldnt be too too bad.

Hope you are having great weather whereever you are in the world.
